If you need help with the cost of spaying or neutering your pet, please contact us.
When CCFAW began funding spays and neuters in 2008, Volusia County was impounding and euthanizing over 21,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. That number has dropped by approximately 25%, which is also reflected in the cost to Volusia County taxpayers who have seen impoundment and euthanasia costs reduced from $2,000,000 per year to under $1,250,000 per year.
We attribute these numbers to several major changes in the way that pet overpopulation is being handled throughout Volusia County.
A Mandatory Spay and Neuter ordinance has been put into place in the unincorporated area of the County and in 10 of the 16 cities in the county.
To accommodate the new ordinance the Volusia County Council purchased and operates The PetVet Cruiser for residents who live in the unincorporated part of the County. The Pet/Vet Cruiser is a mobile veterinary clinic that provides low cost spaying and neutering services with cost calculated on a sliding scale based on income.
Residents who do not live in the unincorporated part of the County or who do not qualify for the Pet/Vet Cruiser can use the new Redinger Clinic at 600 Mason Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32117. The Redinger Clinic is a state-of-the-art spay/neuter clinic that is owned and operated by Halifax Humane Society. The clinic provides low cost spays and neuters for dogs and cats throughout Volusia County.
CCFAW continues to provide funding subsidies for spaying and neutering to pet owners who cannot afford these surgeries even at a low cost. We are also excited about the acceptance of TNR(Trap/Neuter/Return) in many of the cities and the County. TNR is the only way that we can humanely and effectively control the overpopulation of free-roaming cats in our communities. By making a donation for our low cost spaying and neutering program, our TNR program, or our rescue and adoption programs you can help us to save the lives of countless animals and achieve our goal of becoming a “no more homeless pets” community.
